The Gujranwala Khalsa Educational Council (GKEC), Ludhiana, successfully organized a prestigious Book Release Ceremony at Guru Nanak Hall, (GGNKC), marking a significant contribution to the region’s academic and cultural heritage.
The event celebrated the release of the book titled “Gujranwala: The Founding Land of Gujranwala Khalsa Educational Council”, conceptualised by Dr. S. P. Singh, President, GKEC and former Vice Chancellor of Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar, and authored by Dr. Mandeep Kaur Randhawa, Assistant Professor, Department of English, GGNKC.
The ceremony commenced with an engaging introduction by Prof. Manjit Singh Chhabra, Director, GGNIMT/GGNIVS, who set the tone for the event by highlighting the historical significance of Gujranwala and the vision behind documenting its legacy. This was followed by a warm and thoughtful welcome address by Dr. S. P. Singh, who emphasized the Council’s enduring commitment to education, heritage preservation, and intellectual growth.
The author, Dr. Mandeep Kaur Randhawa, then shared her reflections, describing the book as a sincere effort to chronicle the rich educational and cultural roots of Gujranwala. She expressed her gratitude to GKEC and hoped that the work would inspire further academic exploration and dialogue.
The ceremony was presided over by Sardar R. S. Cheema, Former Advocate General, Punjab, who delivered the Presidential Address. In his remarks, he described the book as a must-read for all, stating that it reflects the very soul of Gujranwala. He further emphasized that the work thoughtfully captures the spirit, struggles, and sacrifices of the people who laid the foundation of the Gujranwala institutions, making it a significant contribution to historical and educational literature.
Adding a rich emotional and literary dimension to the event, Prof. Sarabjit Singh Behal recited a poignant poem titled “Main Gujranwala Chod Aaya Haan”, reflecting upon the life lived and cherished memories built by Sardar Avtar Singh in Gujranwala. The heartfelt recitation deeply moved the audience and beautifully captured the pain of separation alongside the enduring connection with one’s roots.
The event featured distinguished addresses by eminent personalities. Sardar Charanjeet Singh Atwal lauded the initiative and underscored the importance of literature in preserving identity and heritage. Prof. Gurbhajan Singh Gill highlighted the book’s role in strengthening Punjabi cultural roots and literary traditions.
A felicitation ceremony was also held to honour the distinguished guests and contributors, acknowledging their valuable presence and support in making the event a success.
The event witnessed the presence of several eminent dignitaries including S. Harsharan Singh Narula, Honorary General Secretary, GKEC; Prof. Rajinder Kaur Malhotra, Principal, GGNKC; Dr. Shikha Sehajpal, Principal, GGN Khalsa College of Pharmacy; Dr. Harpreet Singh , Principal GGNIMT, Mrs. Gunmeet Kaur, Principal, GGN Public School; and Dr. Parvinder Singh, Principal, GGNIOL.
