College of Dairy Science & Technology, Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (GADVASU) celebrated World Milk Day by organizing a one-day seminar on "Good Food, Health, & Nutrition". Dr. R. S. Sethi, Dean, College of Dairy Science & Technology, informed that the seminar was organized to raise awareness about the significance of milk and milk products as an essential component of a healthy diet.
Dr. Inderjeet Singh, Vice Chancellor inaugurated the seminar as the chief guest and congratulated the organizers for assembling a diverse group of experts whose insights and experiences shed light on the health benefits of milk and milk products. Dr Singh emphasized the importance of preserving buffalo due to the techno-nutritional benefits of buffalo milk and its products. During the event, Dr. Singh also unveiled the water testing kit developed by the college.
More than 150 participants including students and faculty from various colleges of the university registered for the seminar. Dr. Sumit Arora, Principal Scientist from ICAR-NDRI, Karnal, highlighted the importance of milk fortification with micronutrients and possible sustainable techniques for milk fortification. Dr. Vivek Sharma delivered an informative speech on the possible ways to detect plant-based ingredients to safeguard milk and dairy products against counterfeit ingredients.
Dr. Sethi presented the concluding report and suggested establishing advanced facilities to check the adulteration of milk and milk products where farmers and consumers can analyze their milk and dairy products to ensure good food, health, and nutrition. Dr JPS Gill, Director of Research, Dr Parkash Singh Brar, Director Extension Education, Dr SK Uppal, Dean, Postgraduate Studies, Dr YPS Malik, Dean, College of Animal Biotechnology and Dr Amarjit Singh, Comptroller, GADVASU were also present. Dr. Sunil Kumar, the organizing secretary, delivered the theme introduction to the house and Dr. Inderpreet Kaur, organizing secretary extended the vote of thanks.
