A full dress rehearsal was held today at the local Guru Nanak stadium to review the arrangements for the district level Independence Day celebrations slated to take place on August 15. Deputy Commissioner Mr Pradeep Kumar Agrawal unfurled the National Flag and took the salute from the march past in the rehearsal. Agrawal also inspected the parade with Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Mr Ashwani Kapoor. A total of 8 contingents of Punjab Police, Home Guards, NCC, Scouts and Guides were part of the parade. The march past was led by PPS Officer Miss Prabhjot Kaur. Mr Agrawal along with Mr Iqbal Singh Sandhu, Mrs Neeru Katyal Gupta and Mr Rishi pal Singh (all ADCs) took the stock of preparations and closely supervised the various cultural items related to patriotism and national integration being prepared by more than 2000 school students for the Independence Day celebrations. School children also presented P.T.Show and Lazium. He said that Education and PWD Minister Mr Vijay Inder Singla will be Chief Guest of the district level function and will unfurl National Flag on August 15. Later, Mr Agrawal held a meeting with the officials and asked them to ensure an impressive presentation by the students during cultural items. He gave necessary directions to the officials of Municipal Corporation, Mandi Board, Panchayat, Excise, Education, health, and others to make the sure smooth conduct of affairs during the function. He also ordered them that tableaus being prepared by different departments which would display the development of state and country should be ready on time. He said that students from Jammu & Kashmir region, who are studying in Ludhiana would be special guests on the occasion. Sewing Machines and Tricycles will also be distributed to needy people. He said that every officer must ensure that people participating in this function should not face any kind of problem. DCP Mr Gagan Ajit Singh was also present on the occasion.
