A CME was organised by Sobti Neuro & Super Speciality Hospital, Ludhiana on 8.7.19 at Hotel Hyatt Regency, Ferozepur Road. The topic of the CME was “Approach to Critical ill patient”. The speaker Dr. Sarika Sobti, Anaesthetist & Intensivist at Sobti Neuro & Super Speciality Hospital told the audience about the patients who require ICU care & how to deal with them. The criteria for patients requiring ICU admission & their philosophy of management was discussed. ICU care is a very important part of our health care system.A team of doctors including a Intensivist, Physician, Surgeon & trained paramedical staff are required to take care of a Critical ill patient. An ICU set up requires full-time availability of ICU Beds, operation theatres, emergency room, laboratory, radiology, blood bank. Various systems of the body can be affected in a sick patient & how to manage them was discussed.There is a need for Basic LifeSupport Training to all professionals dealing in health care. Dr. Sarika Sobti who has worked in ICU as intensivistat Fortis, Apollo Hospital & DMC hospital discussed in detail Step-wise algorithm on ways to prevent further insult to a moribund patient. She briefed the doctors about various ways of Assessment & Resuscitation in a critical ill patient. She told about the basic investigations to be carried & to interpret their results.She informed on how to access response to treatment. According to Dr. Sarika Sobti the most important part of the process was to recognise the patient at risk of collapse. She said that timely briefing & counselling the patient’s relative about likely diagnosis, treatment plan & prognosis is a must. Case scenario pertaining to critical ill patients were discussed by her. The CME was attended by around 200 doctors from Ludhiana & neighbouring areas. There was good discussion on the topic among doctors of various specialities. The CME was followed by dinner.
