Upkar Singh Ahuja, President, CICU welcomed all the dignitaries and mentioned that the Food production in India is only 7%. According to the Other Asian countries as Malaysia – 73%, Thailand – 72%, Philippines – 78% and it is growing at about 5% per year, with various food items. He further said that the Food Processing Industries Food Processing Industry have not much development in the state of Punjab for various reason like poor packaging, Range of production, old manufacturing Equipments and poor manufacturing techniques etc. He also said that the next meeting of the CICU food Cluster will be held at PAU for interaction with food scientists and for better improvement in products. Sh. Pankaj Sharma, General Secretary, CICU emphasized that the the food processing industry needs to implement new technologies and good packaging ideas. It will boost the products as well as employment to youth. It will help to boost more value, employment and industry will grow. Dr. Sandeep Kapoor, Comptroller, Department of Food Science and Technology, Punjab Agriculture University with his team presented a presentation of Food Industries Business of Industry Center (FIBIC). He further mentioned that Objective of the FIBIC is to promote entrepreneurship in the area of food, To provide technology solutions for development of new products and processes, To provide low cost, small batch product development facilities for custom hiring for upcoming entrepreneurs and To handhold the entrepreneurs for developing their enterprises at national level in food sector. He further said that the PAU will provide all the information for development of Food processing industries and some services provided by PAU for entrepreneurs are following:- • Entrepreneurs can hire Machinery. • Sell technology, offer research solution for new product or research. • In house technical training. • Consultancy. • Machinery, Products, Processes, Licensing, Quality etc. • lab testing of food items. Sh. D.P.S. Kharbanda, IAS, Director of Industries & Commerce, Govt. of Punjab said that the various schemes of Govt. for youths like Prime Minister's Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP). In this scheme any individual, above 18 years of age, at least 8th standard pass for projects costing around 10 to 25 lakhs (without any collateral security) in the manufacturing sector can avail the services. He further mentioned that the Land for Food Processing Industries will be provided in very low rates, even free of cost or if any Govt. land is free in Ludhiana will also provide on least rent for 30 years terms. Sh. Kharbanda also said that he will try to provide Land in Mega Food Park at Ladhowal, Ludhiana on low costs. He also said that the PAU will work for Food Processing Industries as Consultant. The Govt. of India will provide 15 crores financial assistant to a Cluster for development of the Business. The Vote of Thanks presented by Sh. S.B Singh, Joint Secretary, CICU.
