In a bid to further accelerate the ongoing work on National Highway No.-I between the Rama Mandi and PAP Chowk, the Deputy Commissioner Jalandhar Mr. Varinder Kumar Sharma today asked the officers of National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) to submit weekly progress report regarding it. The Deputy Commissioner and other officers today again inspected the ongoing work on this ambitious project, so that it could be completed at the earliest. The Deputy Commissioner along with officers of the Police, Army and NHAI besides SOMA company reviewed the entire ongoing work, so as to ensure its timely completion. Mr. Sharma asked the Project Director of NHAI Mr. Vijay Kumar, who had came all the way from Ambala to monitor the work on weekly basis and submit its report to him. The Deputy Commissioner said that this was all the more important to facilitate the people by streamlining the movement on traffic on this ambitious road. He said that this project which had been hanging in fire since last more than eight years was all the more important for the commuters travelling from Delhi to Amritsar, Hoshiarpur, Kapurthala, Pathankot and Jammu via Jalandhar to and fro. Moreover, Mr. Sharma said that with the completion of this project the traffic in city would also be streamlines thereby giving much respite to the people from traffic bottleneck being created on NH-1. Meanwhile, it was decided in the meeting that the work on construction of security wall of Jalandhar Cantt along with the highway from Rama Mandi, shifting of tanks inside the Vajra Dwar, garages, barracks and others would be completed by the executing agency in a time bound manner. Likewise, it was also decided that the work would be executed in an expedite manner so that it was accomplished soon. Prominent amongst other present on the occasion included Deputy Commissioner of Police Mr. Rajinder Singh, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police Mr. Kulwant Singh Heer, Project Director of NHAI Mr. Vijay Kumar, Mr. Harpal Singh from SOMA company, Bridge Engineer NHAI Mr. Som Parkash besides Army officers including Colonel Anurag Agarwal, Swapan Sethi, TS Chandra and Manish Kumar.
